At the turn of the twentieth century, Budapest became a flourishing Jewish metropolis, dubbed by some 'Judapest', blending Neolog, Orthodox and Status Quo Ante currents. Jewish industrialists, doctors, artists and scholars contributed greatly to modern Hungary's rise. The Dohány Street Synagogue remains the largest in Europe.
