Beyond their status as victims of the Shoah, Jews actively participated in the Allied war effort during the Second World War. A great number of them served in the American, Soviet, British, and Free French armies, taking part in combat against the Axis powers. the Jewish Brigade, constituted within the British army toward the end of the conflict, brought together volunteers from the yishuv and fought notably in Italy, before playing a role in aid to survivors. Jews also took part in the resistance in several occupied countries, as well as in the partisan movement in Eastern Europe. This military and resistance engagement constitutes an important facet of the history of Jews during the war.
