The phrase tikkun olam, "repair of the world," has carried several meanings: halakhic adjustments for the good of society in rabbinic literature, then, in Lurianic Kabbalah, the cosmic repair of the divine "sparks" scattered in the breaking of the vessels. Adopted in modern times to denote social and ethical engagement, the notion illustrates the circulation of mystical concepts.
