Rabbi Isaac Alfasi (1013–1103), from Fez and active in Spain, composed the Sefer ha-Halakhot, a digest of the Babylonian Talmud retaining only passages of practical relevance and their conclusions. This work, often called the "little Talmud," had a considerable influence on later codification and was a major source for Maimonides.
