The kippah, or skullcap, is the head covering worn by Jewish men as a sign of respect and awareness of the divine presence. Originally a custom tied to prayer and study, it has become, in many observant circles, a permanent practice. Its shape, material, and color often serve as markers of belonging to a particular community or movement.
