Pidyon HaBen is the rite of redeeming a firstborn son, performed thirty days after birth. The father symbolically gives five silver coins to a Kohen, recalling the consecration of firstborns to divine service. The ceremony applies only to a mother's firstborn, provided he was born naturally, and does not apply to families of Kohanim and Levites.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
