Founded in the nineteenth century by Israel Salanter (1810–1883), the Musar movement promotes systematic work on character traits (middot) and ethical introspection within the Lithuanian yeshivot. Through meditative study of ethical texts and regular spiritual exercises, it aims at the individual's moral perfection. Its influence has lastingly marked the religious pedagogy of the yeshiva world.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
