The Tibbonid dynasty, refugees from Andalusia in Provence, translated major philosophical and scientific works from Arabic into Hebrew. Judah ibn Tibbon, called the "father of translators," was followed by his son Samuel, translator of the Guide for the Perplexed. They forged a Hebrew philosophical vocabulary and made Greco-Arabic learning accessible to Jews of Christian Europe.
