Mishpat Ivri denotes the academic study of Jewish law as a legal system, using the methods of legal science. Emerging in the early twentieth century and developed in Israel, notably by Menachem Elon, this field analyzes halakhic concepts of contract, property and personal status. It has influenced certain Israeli statutes and the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court.
