The Mishnah Berurah is a monumental commentary on the first part of the Shulchan Arukh (Orach Chayim), composed by Rabbi Israel Meir Kagan, the Chafetz Chayim (1838–1933). Published between 1884 and 1907, it surveys and rules on the views of later authorities concerning the laws of daily life, prayer and festivals. It became the dominant halakhic reference in the Ashkenazi world.
