The kavod, the "glory" of God, is a central concept for thinking the manifestation of the divine without compromising its transcendence. Saadia Gaon, and later thinkers such as Judah Halevi and the Ashkenazi pietists, developed theories of a "created Glory" as an intermediary between God and the world. This debate runs through medieval Jewish philosophy and mysticism on the perceptibility of God.
