The Jews of Kurdistan preserved living Neo-Aramaic dialects (Lishana Deni, Lishan Didan, Hulaula) into the twentieth century, distant heirs of ancient Aramaic. These languages carried tales, wedding songs and biblical paraphrases (oral targum). After mass immigration to Israel, they are now severely endangered.
