The henna ceremony is a prenuptial rite widespread among the Jews of North Africa, Yemen, and the East. On the eve or a few days before the wedding, henna paste is applied to the bride's and groom's hands as a symbol of blessing, fertility, and protection against the evil eye. The celebration features traditional dress, songs, pastries, and music specific to each region.
