The Ein Yaakov is a compilation of the aggadic passages of the Talmud, gathered by Rabbi Jacob ibn Habib, an exile from Spain who settled in Salonika in the early sixteenth century. Accompanied by commentaries, the work gave a wide public access to the narrative and moral dimension of the Talmud. It became a popular study text in communal societies and houses of study.
