הוויכוח בימי הביניים על טעמי המצוות
Region: Méditerranée, Espagne
Intersection register · custodian, not owner
Medieval Jewish thinkers debated the rationality of the commandments. Maimonides, in the Guide for the Perplexed, ascribed to them educational and historical purposes, even explaining sacrifices as a weaning from idolatry. Nahmanides and the kabbalists instead saw hidden mystical meanings. This debate opposes a rationalist reading to an esoteric one.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
