The question of where the Jewish day begins, and thus where to observe Shabbat when crossing the Pacific, has been debated since the Middle Ages. The Baal ha-Maor and later the Hazon Ish proposed distinct demarcation lines, often set 90 degrees east of Jerusalem. This subject illustrates the meeting of halakha, geography, and astronomy.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
