A narrative genre proper to Hasidism, in which edifying and wondrous stories celebrate the tzaddikim and their mystical teaching. The tales of Rabbi Nahman of Breslov and the Shivhei ha-Besht are emblematic works. Martin Buber made them known in the West, revealing their spiritual and literary depth.
