In Hasidism, the tzaddik (the "righteous one") is the spiritual master who elevates his followers' prayers and bridges the world and the divine. Around him forms the Hasidic "court," with its rites, festive tables (tisch), dynasties, and centers. This institution of charismatic, hereditary leadership is a defining structural feature of the Hasidic movement.
