The history of designing printed Hebrew type, from the fonts of the first Venetian printers to modern Israeli typefaces. The Soncino family and the printer Daniel Bomberg established lasting models; in the twentieth century designers such as Henri Friedlaender (the Hadassah typeface) renewed the art. This field links aesthetics, legibility and cultural identity.
