The Tosefta ("addition") is a collection of tannaitic traditions arranged according to the six orders of the Mishnah, which it supplements and clarifies. Often attributed to the school of Rabbi Hiyya and Rabbi Hoshaya, it preserves parallel teachings, expanded debates and baraitot. It is a major source for understanding the formation of the Oral Law.
