The mitzvah of challah consists of taking a portion of the bread dough before baking, in memory of the share once given to the Temple priests. Today this portion is burned rather than eaten. Performed especially in preparing for Shabbat and festivals, it is regarded as one of the commandments particularly associated with women, and it gave its name to the braided Shabbat loaf.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
