A learned tradition of Arab-Andalusian music to which the Jewish musicians of the Maghreb contributed greatly, notably in the schools of the Moroccan Ala and the Gharnati. Jewish performers such as Salim Halali and Samy Elmaghribi excelled in it. This music continues in the piyyutim sung to the Andalusian nubat.
