The art of solo synagogue cantillation brought to its peak by the great hazzanim of the cantorial 'golden age,' such as Yossele Rosenblatt and Gershon Sirota. Combining vocal virtuosity, coloratura and improvisation on the liturgical modes, this art enjoyed massive phonographic diffusion. It also influenced popular music and opera.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
