The Maimonidean controversy denotes the conflicts that, from the thirteenth to the fourteenth century, pitted supporters against opponents of the study of philosophy and of Maimonides' rationalist works. Centered first on the Guide of the Perplexed and the Sefer ha-Madda, it saw mutual bans and, in 1232, the burning of Maimonides' books at Montpellier. It long shaped the relation between reason and tradition.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
