At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem a school of historians arose, including Yitzhak Baer and Ben-Zion Dinur, who rewrote Jewish history from a national and Zionist perspective. They emphasized the continuity of the bond to the Land of Israel and the unity of the people through exile. Gershom Scholem concurrently refounded the academic study of Kabbalah there.
