Frankism is a heretical messianic movement founded in the eighteenth century by Jacob Frank (1726–1791), who presented himself as the successor of Sabbatai Zevi. Advocating a transgressive theology and a break with rabbinic law, Frank led many of his followers to convert to Catholicism while maintaining secret beliefs. The movement deeply marked Polish Jewry and its memory.
