Heinrich Graetz (1817-1891) wrote the first great synthesis of Jewish history, the eleven-volume Geschichte der Juden (1853-1875). He presented the history of the Jewish people as a continuous narrative blending suffering and intellectual creativity. Though sometimes criticized for its biases, his work left a lasting mark on Jewish historiography and national consciousness.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
