Don Isaac Abarbanel (1437–1508), statesman and exegete, wrote his great biblical commentaries after the 1492 expulsion from Spain. Proceeding by introductory questions answered at length, he addresses politics, history and philosophy and gives a central place to messianism. His learned yet accessible work was widely read, including by Christians.
