Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972), descendant of Hasidic dynasties and professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary, developed a theology of radical amazement and divine pathos. In The Prophets and God in Search of Man, he describes a God in search of humanity. Committed to civil rights, he marched alongside Martin Luther King in Selma.
