Manuscript, folios from the Zohar on the portion of Genesis. [Northern Italy, mid-16th century]. Quire of four leaves [eight pages]. Sephardic script, semi-cursive. Approximately 25 lines per page. Includes various readings from the printed edition. Old corrections in another hand. Begins: "Rabbi Yossi said, Israel is a well, as it is written, 'Well of Israel, O Lord'..." (parallel to the text in the Mantua edition 5378, folio 33a). Ends: "These are the generations of Jacob; Joseph, Moses did not serve in it until he took" (parallel to Mantua edition, folio 21b). Various textual variants. Example of textual differences: in the manuscript (folio 39, side b, line 16): "and the living creatures ran to and fro... that form stands upon them and in them" and in the printed edition (Mantua 5378, folio 21a) "that form stands in them" (and likewise in the Cremona edition 5379, folio 28b). The continuation of this passage in the section beginning "The mystery of the first" (folio 40 in the manuscript), which differs significantly from the continuation in the printed edition (see the appended expert opinion for details). In the annotations in the margins and between the lines, formulas and corrections are added in Sephardic script from the same period. Watermarks in the paper correspond to paper from Northern Italy from the mid-16th century. 8 folios (16 written pages), with folio numbering: 33–40. 21.5 cm. Good condition, stains and wear. Bound in leather with gilded stamping. Written according to an expert opinion [attached] by Prof. Shelomo Zucker, specialist in Hebrew manuscripts.
