ספר צפנת פענח, ביאור על הלכות תרומות של הרמב"ם, מאת רבי יוסף ראזין אב"ד דווינסק. פיעטרקוב, תרס"ח 1908. First edition (fourth volume from the series of works by the author-Gaon printed during his lifetime). In the margins of the book are five handwritten annotations by the author—the Rogachover Gaon [printed in the collection 'Moriah', 124, year 22, pp. 53]. The celebrated Gaon רבי יוסף רוזין (1858–1936)—known by the epithet "the Rogachover" (after his birthplace Rogachov)—was among the devotees of Chabad-Kapust. In his youth, he studied under the Gaon רבי יוסף דב בער סולובייצ'יק, author of "Beit ha-Levi," together with his son רבי חיים מבריסק. For approximately forty years, beginning in 1889, he served as rabbi of the Chabad Hasidim in Dvinsk, Lithuania, alongside the city's Chief Rabbi, the Gaon author of "Or Sameach." A remarkable and exceptional figure in his incisive reasoning and extraordinary genius, in his mastery of all of Torah in all its aspects and details, in his original innovations of definitions and profound reasoning, and in his unique methods of study. Many tales are told of his genius and immense diligence in Torah. He engaged extensively in elucidating the teachings of הרמב"ם and issued many halakhic responsa. His responsa and innovations were published in his series of works "Tzafnat Paneach." Due to the profundity of his teachings and his condensed and allusive writing style, several projects were established in recent generations to elucidate and interpret his words, and to publish his works in annotated editions. His legendary genius earned appreciation even among the general public of his time, and a well-known essay by Bialik about him states: "From his mind one could mine two Einsteins." 134 pages, [2] leaves (including a leaf with innovations by the author's son-in-law, רבי ישראל אבא ציטרון, which was not recorded in the bibliographic project). 30 cm.
