1. Trattato della Circoncisione, del Chiarissimo Chirurgo Operatore Dr. Samuel Medoro di Padua [Fundamentals of Brit Mila, by the renowned surgeon Dr. Samuel Medoro of Padua]. Italy, February–March 1838. Italian. A manuscript notebook written by one of Samuel Medoro's students at the rabbinical seminary in Padua, where Medoro served as a teacher. The Jewish physician Prof. Samuel Medoro (1788–1854) received his training at the University of Padua and served as a surgeon for the society "La Confraternità israelitica 'Sovvegno' di Padova," which provided medical assistance to Jews throughout Italy; he published numerous works on medical subjects. [9] pp. + [1] attached leaf, 19.5 cm. Good condition. Tears on the attached leaf. 2. Manuscript, copies of letters from sages and maskilim of Italy in favor of abolishing metzitza at circumcision. Italy, the 1840s, after 1852. Italian. Copies of letters sent between 1847 and 1852, in which the authors express support for the abolition of metzitza. Among them, the following letters: an opinion letter from the physician Samuel Medoro, for the students of the rabbinical seminary in Padua (18 November 1847); a letter from Hillel Della Torre (L. Della Torre), rabbi and teacher of theology at the rabbinical seminary in Padua (24 June 1849); a letter from Mordechai Samuel Ghirondi (Marco Samuel Ghirondi) of Padua, with the endorsements of David Hanania Viterbi (D. G. R. Viterbi) and Samuel David Luzzatto; letters from Leon Ascoli, Abraham Lattes, Sabbato Graziadio Treves, Isaac Samuel Reggio, Moses Asson; a letter written in Piedmont on 10 September 1848 by Hillel Cantoni and copied in October 1851 from the archive of the Padua community at the request of Moses Elijah Pisa of Ferrara, with the authorization of the community secretary Abraham Shalom; it is further noted that from November 1851 onward the chief rabbis Ascoli and Reggio abolished metzitza in the city of Ferrara; the final letter is from Bounajuto Gallico, written for Moses Elijah son of Zechariah Pisa of Ferrara.
