Passover Haggadah, Blessing of Song, with commentaries by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Tzintz. Warsaw, [5642] 1882. On the title page and final leaf there are inscriptions and signatures in cursive and childlike handwriting of Rabbi Menachem Zemba: "The honorable Menachem Zemba from Warsaw"; "Menachem son of our teacher [=son of our teacher Rabbi Eliezer, blessed be his memory] grandson [=grandson of Rabbi] Abraham Zemba". The Gaon Rabbi Menachem Zemba (5643-perished in the Holocaust 5703), was born in Warsaw to his father Rabbi Eliezer, was orphaned at about age nine and raised in the home of his grandfather Rabbi Abraham Zemba. From his youth he was known as a prodigy and outstanding scholar. He studied Torah in the study halls of Warsaw, where he established many disciples. He was the most famous of the geniuses of Poland in his generation, one of the heads of the "Council of Torah Sages" in Poland and member of the "Rabbinical Council" in Warsaw. All the great sages of Lithuania and Poland acknowledged his scholarly greatness as one of the greats of the generation. He perished in the "Warsaw Ghetto Uprising" on Passover 1943. From his works "Fruits of Life", "Seed of Abraham" and others, most of his Torah novellae were lost in the Holocaust. Nine pages, 20.5 cm. Dry paper, fair condition, stains and blemishes. On final page tears and crude adhesions. Worn binding. Edition unknown bibliographically. Another edition of the 5641 1880 edition, but beyond the title page censor approval dated January 14, 1882. In the "Treasury of Haggadot" nos. 1577-1579 three editions printed in 1880 appear with censor approvals from 1880, but this Haggadah with approval from 1882 was not recorded.
