"Toldot Yisrael Or Yah" — manuscript, novellae on the Torah in the manner of allusion and Kabbalah, concerning the mystery of creation and the foundation of the world. Rabbi Yisrael Uriah son of Rabbi Aharon ha-Levi. [Late 19th century]. Unique style of Ashkenazi Rashi script with added vowel points (somewhat inconsistent). At the end of the author's introduction, he tells of the reason for the book's name: "on account of my having no son, with whom my help would be, when the time comes for me to dwell in the grave, and then I shall make a voice like the roaring of the sea, but the generations of my Torah novellae with which was my labor, and I have lost sleep on their account, they shall be to me like sons and male children, and they shall calm my tempest in the days of my latter end, and in them I shall find healing for my forgiveness: also, perhaps the Lord will have mercy and give me a grandson and descendant a male child as I desire, and fulfill the whole of the Torah wholly". 112 written leaves. 20.5 cm. Condition: fair, dry paper, loose and worn leaves, torn and loose binding.
