"שיויתי" מרשים על קלף, לבית-הכנסת - אירופה, 1812

"Shiviti" plaque. [Central Europe, apparently Germany], {year} [1812]; renewed in the year {year} [1866]. Black ink / gray and red ink on parchment. An impressive "Shiviti" that served in a synagogue. In its upper margins: "Woe to those who speak in a synagogue" [Woe to those who speak in a synagogue]. At its top: "Know before whom you stand before the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed Be He" and "I have set the Lord before me always". In its center a drawing of a menorah with Psalms verses, supported by two lions, and beside them two flowers; around it various letter combinations and names of God. Around the right, bottom, and left margins, the text reads: "A person grieves over the loss of money and does not grieve over the loss of his days. His money does not help and his days do not return. Turn from evil and do good, surely good is for Israel, Selah". At the base of the menorah the date of the plaque's creation appears: "[year] according to the creation", and on the sides the name of its creator: "The work of my hands and not to boast, with the help of God, the holy Abraham, son of... K[arl] T[zion], may he live". Some of the letters and ornaments were damaged and restored in the year {year}, as evidenced by the inscription on the bottom margins: "Fixed and renewed by me... Yidel... [?] Ashheim in the year {year} according to creation". 33 × 34 cm. Two pieces missing several centimeters in length were completed by sewing in the year {year}. Two holes (apparently one hole served for hanging). Stains.
