Two letters on matters of public charity from the house of Maran ha-Ḥazon Ish, written by his well-known attendants. These letters attest to the extensive involvement of ha-Ḥazon Ish in establishing and strengthening Torah, education, and Jewish law throughout the land. 1. Letter from Rabbi Yaakov Halpernn, founder of the "Zikhron Meir" neighborhood and one of the trusted members of ha-Ḥazon Ish's household. Nisan {year} (1953). In the letter addressed to Rabbi Yaakov Pinḥas Shir from the Ḥoasan transit camp, the writer sends funds for the yeshiva in the Ḥoasan immigrant camp, the contribution from him and "from the Gaon ha-Ḥazon Ish, may he live. Please send ... the receipt, and also a receipt on behalf of Maran ha-Ḥazon Ish, may he live". 2. Letter from Rabbi Zelig ha-Kohen Shapira to Rabbi Yaakov Pinḥas Shir regarding the establishment of a mikveh, Sivan {year} (1953). Official letterhead of the Center for Family Purity. The entire letter is written in the handwriting of the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky "ha-Steipler" (brother-in-law of ha-Ḥazon Ish) and only the signature is by Rabbi Zelig ha-Kohen Shapira. [See attached material from "Par ha-Dor" vol. 4, p. 61, in which it is recounted that more than ninety-three [!] mikvaot were established by ha-Ḥazon Ish from his own funds, through his trusted agent Rabbi Zelig ha-Kohen Shapira from Warsaw].
