Sumerian cylinder seals from the Jemdet Nasr period are the first objects bearing engraved mythological narrative scenes. Among the most famous: a naked man between two trees flanked by a serpent — an image some scholars have linked to the Garden of Eden narrative (Genesis 2–3).
