Intersection register · custodian, not owner
Zhovkva (Żółkiew in Polish), founded in the sixteenth century, was home to a prosperous Jewish community protected by local magnates. Its seventeenth-century Baroque synagogue, one of the most remarkable in Galicia, bears witness to the cultural and economic vitality of this community. During the Shoah, the Jews of Zhovkva were deported to Bełżec or shot; the synagogue, though damaged, is partially preserved.
