Zanzibar (Stone Town), an archipelago in the Indian Ocean under Omani and then British sovereignty, saw in the nineteenth century the presence of Baghdadi Jewish merchants integrated into the commercial networks of East Africa and India. This presence, linked to the routes of ivory, spices, and textiles, remained essentially commercial and transitory.
