A village in southern Judea, Yatta (ancient Yuttah) is mentioned in the Bible (Jos 15:55; 21:16) and in the Talmud as a place of residence of priestly families (cohanim) after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE. Byzantine-era synagogues have been identified there.
