Wieliczka, a town in Lesser Poland famous for its royal salt mines (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), was home to a Jewish community attested since the 17th century, active in trade and crafts. During the Shoah, the Jews of Wieliczka were deported to Bełżec and Auschwitz in 1942–1943 and almost entirely exterminated.

The days of this book

This book bears no memory day yet. The sources that document Wieliczka give years and centuries, never a day; we do not invent one.
