Valmiera (Wolmar in German) is a city in Vidzeme (central Latvia), on the Gauja. Its Jewish community, present in the nineteenth century, was almost entirely murdered shortly after the Nazi occupation of the summer of 1941, as part of the systematic massacres carried out by the Einsatzgruppen in Latvia.
