Urfa (Edessa), the ancient capital of the kingdom of Osroene, is one of the cities of Upper Mesopotamia whose Jewish presence is documented since antiquity. In the Ottoman period, a Jewish community survived there, connected to the networks of Aramaic-speaking communities in the region.
