An agricultural commercial center of the Moroccan Gharb, Souk el Arba du Gharb counted Jewish merchants specializing in the grain and livestock trade in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Their role as intermediaries between rural producers and urban markets was typical of Jewish communities in Morocco's agricultural regions.
