Šalčininkai (Soletchnik in Yiddish), a town in southern Lithuania, was home to a Jewish community since the 18th century, active in local trade. After the German occupation of 1941, the town's Jews were murdered in mass shootings, as in most of the shtetlekh of Lithuania.
