Ružomberok (Rózsahegy in Hungarian), a city in central Slovakia (Žilina region), welcomed a Jewish community from the 18th century, which played an important role in the local economy, notably in the textile industry. In 1942, during the mass deportations organized by the Slovak state, the majority of the city's Jews were deported to the extermination camps.
