Rožňava (in Hungarian Rozsnyó) is a city in southern Slovakia, in the Košice region, formerly part of the Kingdom of Hungary. The Jewish community, present since the eighteenth century, was integrated into local economic life. In 1944, under Hungarian administration, the Jews of Rožňava were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau as part of the mass deportations of spring 1944.
