L'un des treize États originaires de l'Union américaine. L'établissement des Juifs dans l'État remonte à 1658 ([voir Newport](/articles/11510-newport)). Outre la communauté de Newport, l'État possède une communauté croissante à Providence, avec quatre congrégations, une Associated Hebrew Charities (qui comprend vingt-six sociétés), une Hebrew Educational Alliance, une Young Men's Hebrew Association, et d'autres organisations. Woonsocket possède une congrégation, fondée en 1892, et diverses sociétés philanthropiques, et Pawtucket possède également une congrégation juive. La population juive de Rhode Island, incluant Newport, est estimée à 3 500, la population totale de l'État étant de 428 556.
