A mountain town in Iraqi Kurdistan, Rawanduz was home to a small Jewish community attested in the late Ottoman period, speaking Neo-Eastern Aramaic (NENA). Like the majority of Kurdish Jews, they emigrated to Israel during Operation Ezra and Nehemiah (1950–1951).
