Pendjikent, a city in Tajikistan (ancient Sogdiana), welcomed a small Bukharan Jewish community in the 19th century, in the context of the progressive expansion of Jewish presence in the cities of the region under the authority of the Emirate of Bukhara and then Imperial Russia.
